Dr. Christopher Donoghue (he, him, his) is an associate professor of Sociology. He also directs the Master's in Social Research and Analysis, and the Certificates in Customer and User Experience Research (CX/UX Research) and Data Collection & Management. He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology at Fordham University.
His most recent work, The Sociology of Bullying: Power, Status and Aggression Among Adolescents will be released in Summer of 2022 by NYU Press. He is also the co-author of Statistics: A Tool for Social Research and Data Analysis, 11th Edition with Joseph Healey.
His research spans the areas of adolescent bullying, sex education and ethnic and racial prejudice. It has appeared in journals such as Journal of Adolescence, Sex Education, Sociological Studies of Children & Youth, Children and Schools, Qualitative Research in Education, Sociological Forum, The Social Science Journal, Multicultural Education and The Journal of Emotional Education.
Dr. Donoghue's work on bullying focuses on the ways that middle school and high school students define the problem and how they cope with it, including the ways that it affects their sleep. In collaboration with other schools, colleagues and college students, he has conducted many school climate and bullying surveys with young children. He has also studied the impact of their socialization on topics such as sexual intercourse.
In other work, Dr. Donoghue has carried out two nationwide replications of the Bogardus Social Distance Survey to examine long term trends in ethnic and racial prejudice among college students. He has also served as a consultant for public and private schools in New Jersey, assisting in their efforts to address school climate, bullying, ethnic and racial prejudice, sexual risk taking and multicultural education.
Prior to his work on young people, Dr. Donoghue's focus was on older adults, disabilities and long term care. This work appeared in The Gerontologist, Research on Aging, The Journal of Applied Gerontology, Health Care Management Review, The Journal of Health and Social Policy and Disability and Society.
