The goal of my research Dr. Matthew Schuler's research is to understand what drives the distribution, abundance, and coexistence of species in ecological communities. He uses experimental and observational approaches to understand how patterns of community assembly, coexistence, and diversity are altered by human-induced changes to the environment. For the past few years, Dr. Schuler has been investigating how anthropogenic stressors such as salinization, climate change, and invasive species affect freshwater environments. He will be investigating if road salts increase the risk of heavy metal contamination in private drinking wells in New Jersey.
