Description

PROJECT NARRATIVE This project aims to study the mechanisms by which neurons are shaped. Using functional fluorescence sensors and imaging within individual neurons, we will study how activation of a specific protein, called cAMP- dependent Protein Kinase, increases the growth and branching of dendrites, which house the input centers of neurons. We will specifically consider signaling by brain-derived neurotrophic factor, an important regulator of neuronal growth, with the potential for applications in neural repair and regenerative strategies.
