Project Details

Description

Currently vast scientific collections and their scientific data is held at hundreds of herbarium across the US, but are not easily accessible by researchers, policy makers, or the public. A Virtual Herbarium would provide a single access point for information on particular plant species, distribution, geographic species lists, and taxonomic information. Such a resource would pool data and work in a synergistic way to complement and enhance our understanding of wild and cultivated plant species, and have implications on local conservation of endangered species, ecological restoration of native habitats, decimation of invasive species, evaluation of species for taxonomy as well as conservation, and global climate change impacts and land use policy.Description
