Description

Project Summary/Abstract:

This proposal supports work on fundamental theoretical physics at the energy frontier, and high energy physics at the cosmic frontier. Research topics in the mathematical structure of quantum field and string theories include exact results for spectra of massive states in supersymmetric theories, and applications of supersymmetry to the topology of four-manifolds. Research topics in quantum gravity include a study of holographic cosmologies with remnant primordial black holes. Research topics in quantum field theory include rigorous analysis of non-perturbative effects in many body systems from first principles, and new types of anomaly matching conditions among dual descriptions of field theories. Research topics in particle physics include a comprehensive classification of theories of electroweak symmetry breaking with extended Higgs sectors, new types of predictive frameworks relating quark and neutrino flavor and time reversal violation, theories for the origin and observational consequences of dark matter, and applications of machine learning to physics at the Large Hadron Collider. Research topics in dark energy with the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) include studies to improve statistics and reduce systematic errors in the large-scale structure analysis, following key projects identified in the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration science roadmap.
