Abstract
In the hypothalamus of the rat, 928 ± 52 neurosecretory cells are situated outside the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei, forming there groups of accessory neurosecretory cells. These cell groups are closely connected with the main arteries of the hypothalamus and can be divided into 3 topographic clusters. These accessory neurosecretory cells are similar in both light and electron microscopic structure to the cells of the supraoptic nucleus.
