N2 - Incorporating electrically conductive additives into traditional concrete opens the door for concrete pavement to possess the capability to effectively melt snow and ice. This innovation reduces the need for traditional deicing methods, thereby enhancing safety during winter months. This research project demonstrates a full-scale implementation of an electrically conductive pavement that took place in September 2023 at Fairbanks, Alaska. A concrete pavement measuring 100 feet in length and 12 feet in width was constructed and segmented into eight sections to experiment with varying distances between electrodes and electrode types. The study involves the installation control system accompanied by monitoring tools, including data loggers, thermocouples, vibrating wires, snow detectors, and transformers. This remotely controlled system underwent valuation to assess its performance in effectively melting snow and ice on the concrete pavement.
