Abstract
The reaction of 1,2-(CH2OH)2-closo-1,2-C2B10 H10 carborane with 2-(aminomethyl)-pyridine in methylene chloride at room temperature led to the partial cage degradation of the closo carborane and its conversion to the nido derivative. The addition of cobalt chloride hexahydrate in methanol to the mixture produced orange crystals 1. The crystal structure of the orange compound has been determined.
