Characterization of turbulent scales in atmospheric wind by orthonormal wavelets

Research output: Contribution to conference › Paper › peer-review

Abstract

Simulation of wind loads on a model structure in a wind tunnel requires detailed knowledge of the turbulence characteristics in the full-scale atmospheric wind. One of the oldest and most effective techniques used for the analysis of waveforms is frequency analysis. However, in some instances, this technique yield inaccurate results. In such cases, the wavelet analysis should be used. This technique is proven to perform better because it provides information on the time variations and intermittency of turbulence scales.
