Abstract

The two-color femtosecond optical pump-probe spectroscopy was used to analyze the coherent acoustic phonons in the hexagonal manganite LuMnO 3. The propagating strain pulse was consistence with the dependence of the oscillatory component of the photoinduced reflectivity on the incident angle and probe wavelength. The phase, dephasing and frequency of the oscillation were dependent on the temperature. It was found that the dephasing mechanism was due to the absorption depth of the probe.
