Abstract

The Extrusion Simulation offers those involved in polymer processing a multi-faceted tool. Its range of applicability spans evaluation of resin formulations to design of new screws. This paper describes an approach to making a high level extrusion simulation program, accessible to anyone with an interest in evaluating machine performance, designing new equipment, or simply learning from a fundamental basis, the relationships between operating conditions and extruder response. While it may be run in a conventional time-sharing setting, it is also designed to run in an identical fashion on the top end of today's single user computer hardware.
