Abstract
People are often displaced from their homes and countries due to civil conflict, discrimination, climate change, or economic challenges. There are currently over 85 million displaced people, most live as refugees, but many are “internally” displaced. Being displaced increases the risk of food insecurity and nutritional deficiencies. Efforts to treat and prevent such conditions include the delivery of nutrient and food supplements as well as meal replacements. The delivery and sustainability of such programs can be challenging, and efforts must be made to not only reduce the global prevalence of displacement as well as improving the sustainability of relief efforts to prevent morbidity and mortality associated with undernutrition in displaced populations.
