Electrospray mass spectrometry of complementary and mismatched DNA duplexes

Abstract

The electrospray mass spectrometry of complementary and mismatched DNA duplexes was discussed. DNA duplexes are attractive model system for ESI-MS study, due to the well-studied solution-phase behavior of DNA. Negative ion ESI-MS spectra were obtained with the Finnigan LCQ Duo mass spectrometer. Collision induced dissociation (CID) was performed in the mass analyzer by varying the resonance excitation RF voltage from 0-5 V PP. The full-scan simple MS gave the relative abundance of the complex ions related to the composition of the solution.
