Abstract

This paper is in two parts. The first is a brief review of some exactly soluble models in statistical mechanics. The second part is a summary of exact results (with K. Hepp) on the finite mode laser model for which one can elucidate the closed system (equilibrium) phase transition and the open-system (reservoir driven) phase transition.
