Abstract

Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) ranges from premaLignant hydatidiform mole through maLignant invasive mole and choriocarcinoma, as well as more rare lesions of intermediate trophoblastic origin. The most common form of GTD, hydatidiform mole, represents aberrant development of a pregnancy due to specific genetic alterations and is the greatest predisposing risk factor for the development of persistent GTD. While pathologists classify the entities predominantly by histology, the cLinical management of persistent GTD is more often dictated by parameters such as the serum β-hCG level.
