Abstract

Harmonic emission from s-polarized, 400 nm, ultrahigh-contrast laser-solid interactions is observed to exhibit a plasma-frequency cutoff at relativistic intensities (∼1020Wcm−2), with harmonics emerging beyond this cutoff in the ultrarelativistic regime (∼1021Wcm−2). Experimental conditions isolate J⃗×B⃗ heating as the dominant absorption mechanism, and particle-in-cell simulations show that its intensity-dependent evolution drives distinct harmonic generation mechanisms.
