Impurity‐Induced Far Infrared Absorption in CaF2, BaF2, and SrF2 Containing H‐Ions

Abstract

The far infrared impurity‐induced absorption has been measured for CaF2, BaF2, and SrF2 containing either Hor Dions. In doped CaF2, only a broad one‐phonon absorption appears. For BaF2 and SrF2, Hand Dions induce a weak continuous absorption and, in addition, resonance type modes occur at 127.0 and 139.2 cm−1, respectively. The spectra are compared with the calculated density of states curves. It is suggested that the 127 cm−1 line in BaF2 is the low lying T2 resonance mode of the Hion.
