Abstract
The potential cost savings enhancement from optical network transparency was discussed. The process was carried out by applying connected dominating sets and impairment-aware routing, which reduces the optoelectronic (OEO) nodes. The impairment-aware routing finds more feasible path than oblivious routing for the same number of OEOs. It was found that under impairment-aware routing, the connected dominating set (CDS) method needs to place fewer OEOs than the path-improvement heuristic (PIH) method to provide feasible paths for all pairs of nodes.
