Abstract
A structural analysis of the interplanar spacing (d) of the Cu(110) surface is reported, using medium-energy-ion scattering in a channeling and blocking experiment. Evidence is presented for a model with a multilayer oscillatory change in d with d12=(-7.5 1.5)% and d23=(+2.5 1.5)%. These values are in good agreement with those found with low-energy-electron diffraction but d12 is larger than that found by previous ion-scattering experiments. The model provides excellent agreement between data and Monte Carlo simulations.
