Abstract
A research team have identified and patented microorganisms that degrade polyaromatic hydrocarbons and also form endospores that allow them to survive difficult environmental conditions. The organisms, Paenibacillus validus and P. naphthalenovorans (ATCC PTA-640) should be useful in the bioremediation of sites contaminated with naphthalene.
