Abstract
As recent studies show that it is common for people to search for the essentially same information problem across multiple episodes, the need for modeling such behavior and utilizing the theoretical model as the foundation of system design is emergent. This paper proposes a multi-dimensional conceptual model, called MISE, explaining such information behavior, moving through the dimensions of context, problem, action/ process and episode. It identifies eight different reasons why people engage in multiple information seeking episodes and characterizes them in terms of traits of MISE. It concludes with plans for the continuing development of MISE.
