Abstract
A basic nonlinear time-dependent model that describes the evolution of a zero-frequency linear instability that grows faster than exponential in the nonlinear regime and subsequently saturates to form a void is presented. This model can provide the foundation for more complete analyses in two dimensions, including a more detailed account of ion dynamics, ionization physics, and effects such as charge variation and the thermophoric force.
