Abstract
The solid solution of lead zinc niobate (PZN) and lead titanate (PT) near the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) exhibits unusually large dielectric and piezoelectric constants. In the present paper, two methods of synthesizing PZN-PT powder near MPB are reported. Heat treatment studies were conducted to understand kinetics of the perovskite to pyrochlore phase transition. Piezoelectric properties of composites with 0-3 connectivity prepared from PZN-PT powder as a filler material were studied. These composites show promise for piezoelectric voltage sensors.
