title = "SECONDARY METABOLITES FROM ORGANIZED ATROPA BELLADONNA CULTURES.",
abstract = "Regenerated root cultures of Atropa belladonna (deadly nightshade) are used in an efficient format for the production of tropane alkaloids. Shake flasks were employed to convert selected, embryogenic callus lines to embryos that in turn form roots. Tropane alkaloids were found only in association with the roots, reaching about 0. 2% of the dry weight. A novel membrane-based culture system in the form of small 'boats' enables continuous callus cultivation for semicontinuous operation.",
