Abstract

Similar aortic pressure and flow waveforms in mammals suggest that pulse transmission characteristics may be similar. This was examined utilizing allometry and models of the arterial system. Experimentally obtained root aortic pressures for dog and man were resolved into their forward and reflected components in the time domain. Results show that both the global reflection coefficient and the propagation constant times the aortic length are about the same in the mammalian species investigated.
