Abstract
Pioneered by Motorola and popularized by GE, the Six Sigma philosophy has spread like a wildfire across the corporate world during the last decade. In this chapter, we discuss what Six Sigma means as a metric, a philosophy and as a company-wide approach for Quality Management. The road map, organizational structure and training necessary for successful deployment of Six Sigma are discussed. A case study based on an Indian manufacturing company illustrates a typical Six Sigma project leading to financial benefits.
