Abstract

A two-dimensional framework is proposed for implementation in the electronic media. Termed as a two-dimensional book, the framework is represented by a two-dimensional lattice of nodes connected via bi-directional hypertext links. The hypertext links represent a convenience feature that allows users to quickly jump from one portion of the text to another. The advantages and the importance of the proposed two-dimensional books are presented. Among the most important issues discussed are the ability to accelerate the learning process of a scientific discipline, and the ability to accommodate a variety of students' cognitive styles.
